SUMMARY:ThingsCon Salon - Generative City Things
DESCRIPTION:Imagine a world where everyday objects are imbued with the powe
r of generative AI. What possibilities and challenges would emerge? Things
Con aims to explore this frontier by inviting designers to create provotyp
es of the near future “generative things”.\n\nTo ignite imagination an
d foster meaningful discussions\, we like to use the concept of “provoty
pes” – provocative prototypes of generative things. These tangible gli
mpses into tomorrow are catalysts\, opening up critical dialogues about ou
r impending relationships with AI-infused objects.\n\nThe exhibition “Ge
nerative Things” premiered at TH/NGS 2024\, on 13 December 2024 in Volk
shotel Amsterdam\, and will travel to other places in 2025\, sparking conv
ersations and imaginations. This initiative is organized by ThingsCon\, in
collaboration with the Master Digital Design of Amsterdam Univesity of A
pplied Sciences and Waag Futurelab.\n\nNext up\, we’re taking Generati
ve Things to Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. Our next public eve
nt\, scheduled for 14 April\, will feature:\n\n An updated exhibition wit
h new and refined provotype designs\, specifically relating them to city l
ife\n An in-depth reflection workshop bringing together design students a
nd professionals\n A public Salon to share insights and spark city-wide d
iscussions\n\nWe’re revisiting the provotypes to create “situated desi
gns” that respond to Amsterdam’s unique context. By partnering with lo
cal societal organizations\, we’ll develop specific scenarios to test ou
r provotypes in real-world settings\, bringing the future of Generative Th
ings to life in our city’s streets and spaces.\n\nThe results will be un
veiled at the HvA Campus building. Prepare to be transported into the futu
re with our immersive exhibition\, showcasing these futuristic objects in
 their envisioned contexts.\n\nMeetup\, join here.
